How to open a .pub file on iPhone or iPad

There's no Publisher app for iPhone or iPad, but you can open a .pub file in Safari and save it as a PDF that opens anywhere.

Steps

  1. If the .pub file came by e-mail, tap the attachment and choose Save to Files.
  2. Open pubfileconverter.com in Safari and tap Choose files.
  3. Pick the file from Files or iCloud Drive. Its pages appear after a few seconds. Tap a page to see it larger.
  4. Tap Download. We ask for your e-mail once and send a sign-in link (no password). Your first 3 files are free.
  5. Open the Files app, go to Downloads and tap the zip to unpack it. The PDF is inside.

Tip: the sign-in link works best when you open it on the same device. If your mail app opens it in a different browser, copy the link into Safari.

Many files?

Put the .pub files in one folder in Files, or zip them, and choose them all at once. For a large archive a computer is more comfortable, but the iPad works fine. See converting many files.
