How to open a .pub file on Android

Android phones and Google Drive can't show Publisher files. Open the .pub file in Chrome instead and save it as a PDF.

Steps

  1. Save the .pub file to your phone (from Gmail: tap the download icon on the attachment).
  2. Open pubfileconverter.com in Chrome and tap Choose files.
  3. Pick the file from Downloads or Google Drive. Its pages appear after a few seconds.
  4. Tap Download, enter your e-mail and open the sign-in link we send (no password). Your first 3 files are free.
  5. Open the Files app, find the zip in Downloads and tap Extract. Tap the PDF to open it.

Why Android can't open it

A .pub file is in Microsoft Publisher's own format, and Publisher only ever existed for Windows. Microsoft retired it in October 2026, so no app will be added now. Turning the file into a PDF is the reliable way to keep it readable.

Google Drive can store a .pub file, but it can’t show it. Publisher files are not on its list of previewable formats.
